Our Philosophy and Approach to Fitness and Wellness

Our approach combines proper nutrition and fitness training with a specific goal setting agenda based on our client's needs, along with success monitoring.

Proper nutrition is 50% of the formula to achieve a better body, better health and well-being. Body Works does not endorse one specific "diet" over another. Incorporating plenty of fresh fruits, a wide variety of vegetables and lean proteins can make an incredible difference in the way you look and feel. Learning what to eat, when to eat and portion control are essential tools in weight and health management.

Fitness Training combined with dieting can really accelerate your journey to health. Well-defined, measurable goals are the key to your success.

During a Full Fitness Assessment we look at:

  • Body measurements and weight
  • Aerobic capacity
  • Resting heart rate
  • Blood pressure
  • Muscular strength
  • Muscular endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Body composition analysis(% body fat, % muscle)

We also want o know your medical history, exercise history, current fitness level and specific short and long term goals.

The most important thing we do is listen to you. We would never try to force someone to become a body builder or a long distance runner if that is not their goal. If your goal is health and wellness or looking great in a swimsuit or improving your game then that is the goal we work towards using proven methods and techniques.

Our Training Methods

Because everyone is different we have many different techniques that can move you along towards your personal goals. Recent years have seen advances in training methodolgies that make training both more effective, and we think, more fun. Sometimes it is like being a kid again. Remember being a child and throwing a ball or running down the street just because it was a part of your lifestyle of being a kid? Exercise can be a part of your adult lifestyle too and it doesn't have to be a chore.

Our methods include using a variety of tools such as resistance bands, stability balls, weight machines and a broad spectrum of cardio equipment. Weigh training is a wonderful way to improve your fitness level. Weight bearing exercises help to prevent osteosporosis by strengthening your bones and make you look leaner and tighter all over by replacing fat with sexy-looking muscle. Weight training can also challenge your cardiovascular system and really get that heart pumping for other health benefits. We advocate combining cardiovascular exercise with weight training and stability training for global body benefits.

BMI Chart

A BMI chart uses height and weight to determine Body Mass Index. Your BMI is the easiest way to determine whether or not you are in a healthy weight range. It uses the ratio of your height to your weight to determine whether you are healthy, under or overweight or obese. Note that the BMI gives conflicting results for body builders or other heavily muscled athletes because of dense muscle mass.

The BMI is by no means the only way to determine whether you are healthy. A full Fitness Assessment will tell you your percentage of body fat, muscle mass, strength, flexibility and cardio health. A full Assessment is FREE when you sign up for 4 or more fitness training sessions.

Accessibility is important to us too. If you have a health challenge we will work with you to provide training at a level that is achievable and constructive for you as long as your medical doctor agrees.
